I had an opportunity to participate in Palermo pride events that were taking place from 28 June until 2nd July. It was a chance for me to enjoy many different concerts and funny shows that got attention of a wide audience. The grand opening started on a big square called Piazza Bologni. Each evening there were so many people coming to listen to music and enjoy the atmosphere. It made me realize how Palermo’s inhabitants support LGBTI community. Diversity is welcomed and it gives people freedom to choose.

During these days the diversity was also represented in colours, in music, in many public events that reached its peak during the last event of Palermo pride day. I was happy to join and while dancing through streets and following music that was coming from big trucks, I understood how it is important to be part of this big group of people that give support to diversity, to LGBTI community.

The most important thing I learned from participating in these events is that we are all equal, we are all humans. Our choices are different, but the respect is to be equal for all.

That is where the importance of the Pride also comes from. It shows how easy but crucial it can be to get together and celebrate our differences.

And it all happened thanks to many organizations that organized and supported Palermo pride 2017, such as Ali d’Aquila, Alibi, Arcigay Palermo, Arci Palermo, Arcobalena, Articolo 3 “Salvatore Rizzuto Adelfio”, Associazione Radicale “David Kato Kinsule”, Blow up, Exit, Famiglie, Arcobalena, Gatta di Pezza, Gino e Massimo Sposi, Gruppo Buddista, Arcobalena, Laboratorio Sud,Labaratorio Zen İnsieme, Qui Palermo,Stay Queer Stay Rebell and many other.[:en]

one-world-coverfbjpg

One World

One World Project will see the hosting of 36 young people from 6 different countries.

The exchange will last 7 working days, it will be held in Palermo and it’ll be opened to people aged 18-25 who want to explore their perception of “diversity” and understand the influence that social media has on it.

One World will also include participants with fewer opportunities , such as peole who are facing social difficulties and/or cultural diffrencies, in order to achieve the main purpose of this project: the respect towards diversity.

During these 7 days, we’ll make some activities whose aim is to raise awareness of different cultures and to develop on the participants some sense of respect and openness towards diversity and multiculturalism.

To make the stay more pleasant and “easy”, the project includes various activities such as: roleplays, debates, discussions, analysis of videotapes, pictures and documents.

The games will be used to change the usual behaviours of each participant and to analyse social structures of power and oppression.

The purpose of One World is to stimulate critical thinking through the comparison between young participants and to allow them to achieve an high level of competence which will influence positively their approach to diversity.

We hope that the longterm benefits of this project will be seen in young people who’ll create a more pacific culture.
