I had an opportunity to participate in Palermo pride events that were taking place from 28 June until 2nd July. It was a chance for me to enjoy many different concerts and funny shows that got attention of a wide audience. The grand opening started on a big square called Piazza Bologni. Each evening there were so many people coming to listen to music and enjoy the atmosphere. It made me realize how Palermo’s inhabitants support LGBTI community. Diversity is welcomed and it gives people freedom to choose.
During these days the diversity was also represented in colours, in music, in many public events that reached its peak during the last event of Palermo pride day. I was happy to join and while dancing through streets and following music that was coming from big trucks, I understood how it is important to be part of this big group of people that give support to diversity, to LGBTI community.
The most important thing I learned from participating in these events is that we are all equal, we are all humans. Our choices are different, but the respect is to be equal for all.
That is where the importance of the Pride also comes from. It shows how easy but crucial it can be to get together and celebrate our differences.
And it all happened thanks to many organizations that organized and supported Palermo pride 2017, such as Ali d’Aquila, Alibi, Arcigay Palermo, Arci Palermo, Arcobalena, Articolo 3 “Salvatore Rizzuto Adelfio”, Associazione Radicale “David Kato Kinsule”, Blow up, Exit, Famiglie, Arcobalena, Gatta di Pezza, Gino e Massimo Sposi, Gruppo Buddista, Arcobalena, Laboratorio Sud,Labaratorio Zen İnsieme, Qui Palermo,Stay Queer Stay Rebell and many other.[:en]
