[:it]Evs HRYO at Palermo Pride 2017[:]

[:it]

I had an opportunity to participate in Palermo pride events that were taking place from 28 June until 2nd July. It was a chance for me to enjoy many different concerts and funny shows that got attention of a wide audience. The grand opening started on a big square called Piazza Bologni. Each evening there were so many people coming to listen to music and enjoy the atmosphere. It made me realize how Palermo’s inhabitants support LGBTI community. Diversity is welcomed and it gives people freedom to choose.

During these days the diversity was also represented in colours, in music, in many public events that reached its peak during the last event of Palermo pride day. I was happy to join and while dancing through streets and following music that was coming from big trucks, I understood how it is important to be part of this big group of people that give support to diversity, to LGBTI community.

The most important thing I learned from participating in these events is that we are all equal, we are all humans. Our choices are different, but the respect is to be equal for all.

That is where the importance of the Pride also comes from. It shows how easy but crucial it can be to get together and celebrate our differences.

And it all happened thanks to many organizations that organized and supported Palermo pride 2017, such as Ali d’Aquila, Alibi, Arcigay Palermo, Arci Palermo, Arcobalena, Articolo 3 “Salvatore Rizzuto Adelfio”, Associazione Radicale “David Kato Kinsule”, Blow up, Exit, Famiglie, Arcobalena, Gatta di Pezza, Gino e Massimo Sposi, Gruppo Buddista, Arcobalena, Laboratorio Sud,Labaratorio Zen İnsieme, Qui Palermo,Stay Queer Stay Rebell and many other.[:en]

Our EVS volunteer will be actively involved in our activities, from the preparation to the evaluation, and her/his role will mainly be to facilitate, together with CBB leaders and other CBB volunteers, the participation of people with fewer opportunities or disabilities.
The volunteer will be particularly involved in three CBB actions:
1- The programme “Volunteering, leisure time and disability”;
2- Organization and animation of projects as work camps and youth exchanges whose aim is the integration of youngsters with less opportunities;
3- CBB training for young leaders of summer camps.
1-The programme “Volunteering, leisure time and disability developed by CBB organisation aims to develop among young people a better awareness about disability as well as to favour the participation of people in situation of mental disability in CBB projects.
Together with the staff members, the EVS volunteer will be in charge of the preparation, animation and evaluation of residential week-ends, summer camps and evening activities for groups of people with mental disability. The tasks will be varied and can be organised according to the skills, interests and abilities of the young volunteer.

Here below is an example of tasks concerning the organization of a week-end of activity:
Before the week-end: to search for an accommodation, to organise the logistics, to plan the menus, to plan cultural and sports activities as well as touristic visits…
During the week-end: to welcome the group of participants, to provide an individual support to the people with disability (this may include sanitary support to the persons), to facilitate the group dynamic, to lead a cultural visit, a group game…
After the week-end : to evaluate the activity with the others leaders, to write articles and to post news on the organisation’s Facebook public page about the week-end, to prepare a small report addressed to the parents of the participants with disability…
Each year, CBB organises around 20 residential week-ends of such type. We also organise 2 camps of 10 days in Belgium and 2 camps abroad. Around 20 persons participate in each of these projects; more than half of them are in situation of mental disability (mostly learning difficulties and Down syndrome).

Every two months Friday evening cine-club and monthly table games evenings are also usual activities developed within the programme “Volunteering, leisure time and disability”.

2- Our EVS volunteer will also take part in other projects as work camps and youth exchanges whose aim is the integration of youngsters with less opportunities.
3- S/he will be part of CBB animators’ team who will organize a training cycle for summer camps leaders.
With CBB staff members the volunteer will be in charge of the good implementation of the training and s/he will have the opportunity of taking initiatives, organizing workshops and bringing new ideas. Being involved in this training will enable our volunteer to be sensitized to the topic of group management, techniques of animation, organization of activities.

One World. I have a dream…Yes!

10006539_593567907447274_7681126529312761240_nI have a dream…Yes, Just like Martin Luther King Jr, I have a dream! A dream for a world filled with peace and brotherhood. We are often confronted with the opposite reality when we turn on the news, hear or experience conflict in our society. We could describe peace as the absence of violence, but I believe and experience peace as a state of being. From the 21st until the 30th of October “One World” a Youth Exchange about diversity and tolerance will be implemented in Palermo (Sicily). The H.R.Y.O. Human Rights Youth Organization will host 30 participants and 6 Youth leaders from the following 6 countries: Jordan, Palestine, Turkey, Sweden, Spain and Italy. It will be open to young people between the ages 18-25 who are ready to explore their perception towards peace, diversity and the influence society has on this perception. We have chosen the city of Palermo as it has a culturally rich history of Arabic, African and European influences. The current situation in the city still reflects a great deal of diversity which will complement the goal and experience in the project. So, we believe that this characteristic of Palermo will be an added value in the project since in our media based world that constantly communicates attacks, un-safety and distrusting of „the other‟ makes it difficult for youngsters to be open to diversity. The aim of this project is to foster a culture of peace amongst young people. By empowering and assisting youngsters to experience a reality beyond their own cultural roots and backgrounds, we want to stimulate tolerance and a curiosity towards diversity. Participants will leave this project with a new level of social and intercultural competences that will positively influence their approaches and behavior towards diversity. We hope the long term benefits of the project will be seen in young people actively taking part in the realization of a culture of peace.one-world-coverfbjpg

H.R.Y.O. was accreditated as Coordinating, Sending and Receiving organization for E.V.S.

We are happy to annunce that H.R.Y.O. was accreditated as Coordinating, Sending and REceiving organization for European Voluntary Service projects under the Erasmus Plus Programme;

Ei.Ref: 2016-1-IT03-KA110-009318

We invite all organisations want to develop a project with us to contac us sending an e-mail to info@hryo.eu

ErasmusThanks to our experience we find it important to improve the skills of facilitators of young people’s learning process – for either a short period (workshops, youth exchanges, trainings) or a longer one (EVS, Erasmus placement, ENPI CBC Med project mobility – work placement of youth workers and unemployed youth etc.). We are promoters of the Youthpass and of the validation of non-formal learning outcomes, therefore we focus a lot on the key competences when it comes to facilitate our target groups’ learning.

In addition to these international projects, the H.R.Y.O. has a wide range of local initiatives and activities. The permanent local activities are as following:
Orto BhRYO
H.R.Y.O. has a parcel of land called Orto BhRYO as a part of a big Urban Garden in Palermo. It aims at providing many environmental, social, and health benefits, such as providing a local source of food, bringing communities and families together, educating people about the origins of food, adding green spaces to our city. Besides, it creates leisure and recreational spaces for us.

Collection point
The used clothes collection point of H.R.Y.O is a new reality for the association that begins to appear in the initial reception activities of migrants. agenzia_nazionale_giovaniBeing present in a city that in recent years has been the destination of many landings, the association has always worked to forge relationships with shelters and communities in order to propose activities for the social inclusion of migrants through local projects.
The migrants were involved in youth exchanges and other activities, and some of them have worked as volunteers in events sponsored by the organization as the Festival of Cultures – Meet Me Halfway and the Anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights.
The next step that the association wants to take is to strengthen the point of collection of used clothes, with the help of EVS volunteers, to donate to various communities and shelters in the area.
The goal in the medium term is to strengthen the collection point as well as to create a series of local events for the distribution of the collected materials to those who need it the most.

Web Radio
This media is used to spread the association’s international experience and the results of the projects implemented with the involvement of the participants, and to discuss various issues related to human rights. The Web Radio is not only a space for members of the association to present, promote and highlight the H.R.Y.O projects but also a tool that allows young people to make their voices heard debating on current affairs, music and topics of interest.

Annual Activities:

  • Festival of Cultures – Meet me Halfway
  • Rosa Parks
  • Anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The organisation is engaged in implementing educational youth projects at local and international level since its foundation. At local level we organize seminars, workshops, and other educative courses for promoting human rights and other democratic, European values. We also involve young people with fewer opportunities (e.g. young migrants, youngsters with disability and minors under the restorative justice program)  in our activities. We provide traineeship possibilities for university students and volunteers. At international level, we have wide experience with the implementation of Youth in Action and Erasmus+ projects. Besides, we have been hosting international trainees from European and Mediterranean countries.

Call for Partners R2 – Erasmus+ with Municipality

Call for Partners
For the 26th April deadline
MOTHERLAND

The H.R.Y.O. – Human Rights Youth Organization is a no-profit organization funded in Palermo in 2009 with the aim to enforce human rights both at local, European and international level. Locally, we organize seminars, workshops and other educational programs to promote human rights and other democratic European values. We also involve young people with fewer opportunities (such as young migrants, disables and/or people involved in restorative justice pathways). We provide internship opportunities for university students and simple volunteers. Internationally, we have a big experience with Youth in Action and Erasmus+ projects. Finally, we host international interns from European and Mediterranean countries.
In close partnership with the Municipality of Godrano, a mountain village near Palermo whose resources and territory we are helping to promote, we are looking for partners for the Youth Exchanges “MOTHERLAND” with the following characteristics:

  •  Activity → Erasmus+ Key Action 1 – Youth Exchange;
  • Target group → 30 young people between 18 and 30 years;
  • Activity dates → 1st exchange on “Earth”:6/03/17 to 11/03/17; 2nd exchange on “Water”: 8/05/17 to 13/05/17; 3rd exchange on “Air”: 3/07/17 to 8/07/17; 4th exchange on “Fire”: 4/09/17 to 9/09/17
  • Location → Godrano;
  • Organizer → Municipality of Godrano with the support of H.R.Y.O. – Human Rights Youth Organization;
  • Contacts: simona.marano@hryo.eu;

fotosimo1The project is a multi-action and it is composed by 4 exchanges that will take place in Godrano. The idea was born by the need to rediscover ourselves and the link between man and nature. Each exchange will focus on one of the 4 natural elements: earth, water, air and fire, and it will involve 5 countries and 6 participants for each one.
The specific objectives of the project are:
– Driving the participants in the distinction between the 4 elements that make up the nature, spurring them to a profound reflection on the meaning of what surrounds us;
– Educating to respect nature, themselves and the others through the non-formal education methodology;
– Improving the social inclusion of disadvantaged targets, contributing to the dejection of prejudice;
– Creating a cross-cultural awareness for cooperation and solidarity for the protection and enhancement of local resources.
Among the activities we will organize there are creative labs, compass activities, trips out, energizers, intercultural evenings, visit to artisan shops, workshops and debates.
The expected results are creating an intercultural, no-border space; forming durable bonds between participants, even for future experiences; freedom of creative expression and the transformation of ideas in action.
All of these competences will help to create long time benefits, such as:
– Respect for all the people, for human rights and for the nature;
– Awareness in the participants’ own capacities;
– Development of a culture of peace and respect;
– Working group as a tool to reach every day’s objectives.
If you are interested in taking part in this project please send us your Partner Identification Form (PIF) until the 12nd of April 2016 on simona.marano@hryo.eu!
